Momma bear used her powerful claws and considerable weight to rip a large piece of lumber out of the fallen pine. She paused for only a moment to check on us and make sure we were keeping our distance. Make no mistake, she may look soft and fluffy but after seeing her rip the log apart we knew she could mean business in a flash. We kept our distance and used a high power zoom so not to intrude on their space. As a reward for being discreet and quiet we were able to shoot these intimate shots between mother and cub for close to an hour. It was such an incredible hour that I will never forget.
