Western Sandpipers can be found all up and down the coast of California and are just one of many common types of seabirds. They typically feed in the surf and around the dunes of sandy beaches. You will often see small flocks of them running up and down the beach as the surf rises and recedes and dodging waves that crash in to the rocks.
