Sitting by the Dock of the Bay

Returning the next evening to film the Guardian fireboat at Pier 22 ½ under the San Francisco Bay Bridge the fog proved to be as unpredictable as ever and though forecast were for slightly higher fog, the high rises were shrouded in fog. The much lower fog cut the orange glow from the Port of Oakland making for a much different mood. Capturing the little boat as it wobbled back and forth with the waves meant a fast exposure which also helped to capture the Bay Lights, a 25,000 LED project celebrating the 75 years since the Bay Bridge was completed which will remain running for the next two years.

The fireboat is docked at Firehouse 35 along the Embarcadero near historic Market Street in downtown San Francisco. It’s an easy walk along the Embarcadero all the way down to Pier 39. Along the route you will see a number of landmarks from the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower and the Transamerica building. I highly recommend it but keep in mind it will take a while. Once there you can take the world famous Cable Car back to Market Street which travels over the steep hills of San Francisco.
