Just below the peaks of Mt. Tamalpais a road runs along the ridge between the great Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. The area acts as a buffer between the fog on the sea and the sunshine of inland California. Here is a panorama of the sun slipping behind the fog illuminating it into a fiery glow. To the left, the layer of fog that covers the Pacific ocean in the summer months extends to the horizon.
