Dream Boat - Point Reyes

The tide rolls into Tomales Bay at sunset making for a near perfect mirrored reflection of an old fishing boat long ago wedged on a small sandbar in the town of Inverness. Wild flowers rise up out of the tide as perfect decoration for the rusted and decaying shipwreck most often referred to as the S.S. Point Reyes. The rolling coastal foothills of California glow creating a great backlight for this popular tourist destination near Point Reyes National Seashore.

The reflection are is actually in a small creek that runs though the town of Inverness and into Tomales Bay. As the tide rises the brackish water flows backwards up the creek submerging the grass and wildflowers that line the shoreline. It's a perfect place to sit and watch the sunset as the fog moves so quickly here that the scene changes from moment to moment. The boat is located directly behind the grocery store in the town of Inverness and is easy to miss due to the buildings. Once behind the grocery store there is a nice picnic area and a small trail that runs along the shore and out to the south side of the small creek.

Further out the road are a number of other great vistas including the Point Reyes Lighthouse and the old RCA Radio Station which has been preserved by the National Parks service. On the far north end of the Point Reyes peninsula, herds of elk cover the hills and can be viewed easily against the vast shoreline. Truly one of California's less well known treasures the park is seldom crowded.
