Point Sur Lighthouse - Big Sur California

As we drove towards down the California coastline we spotted a massive rock protruding from the sea and barely clinging to the land preventing it from becoming an island. Atop the rock were a number of small buildings but most notably on the north end of the rock (right side) is the Point Sur Lighthouse sitting atop the 361 foot rock. Beautiful blue green waves crash along the white sandy beach on the north side as clouds cast shadows across the peninsula. One of the more dramatic lighthouses in California though the lighthouse is only 80 feet high the light rises near 400 feet above the ocean. A narrow winding road wraps around the rock and leads up to the lighthouse which is open for touring on specific days. But arrive early as it is first come first serve and the number is limited. It is a remarkable and beautiful vista even from the road.
