Bright orange fire lights up the forest surrounding Bass Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. People crowded on to the shores of Bass Lake to see the annual Fourth of July fireworks show. The shore of the lake somewhat larger due to the California drought seemed to attract more visitors this year. Boats lined up on the lake and jockeyed for key positions. As the show started the crowds cheered and as I was shooting I could hear a number of them singing God Bless America. The traffic was insane, parking was pretty much gone by noon and getting a position on the beach was difficult at best. I can’t imagine the mess the boaters went through but in the end it was a beautiful show that illuminated the forest. The good news is that all the fire seemed to be in the sky.
