Over hundreds of thousands of years the streams that feed the lake have
picked up salts and other minerals and collected in the lake making the
water unusable by all but the heartiest creatures. But as science has
recently discovered, life flourishes in the harshest of environments and
that includes this brine salty water. The lake flourishes with brine shrimp
which you may remember from your childhood as Sea Monkeys. Creatures that
seem to burst to life from a dry powder when placed in water.
