Sunrise of the Gods - Mono Lake, California

As the sunrises giant tufas stand like gods over Mono Lake in Eastern California's high desert. Mono Lake attracts a vast number of tourist and photographers and for good reason. The landscape is stunning and surreal and never disappointing. Morning sunrises and sunsets are spectacular due to the incredible height of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. As currents of damp air blow inland off the Pacific Ocean, the Sierra Nevada range forces it to rise and condense. What may be a clear day on the coastline of California turns in to varied cloud cover on the Eastern side of the Sierras making for stunning sunrises especially in the Spring and Fall months. Strange rock formations known as tufas (tou-fas) protrude from the lake standing like ancient sentinels over the vastness of salt water that is known as Mono Lake.
