Cathedral in the Sky

Cathedral in the Sky

More impressive than any manmade structure the aptly named Cathedral Peak rises high above the Tuolumne River. The base of the mountain slopes at an ever increasing rate to form a steeple made of white granite exposed over the ages of time. It's pinnacles and spires rising to over 10,000 feet in height while lush deep green pines surround it as it reflects in the calm waters of the Tuolumne as the river winds though the largest alpine meadow in the world. Surrounded by a number of lakes this peak is a favorite of photographers who venture to the higher altitudes of the eastern part of Yosemite National Park. It stands alongside the equally impressive Unicorn Peak as one of the many landmarks that make this place easily identified from many miles away. This is where daily routine falls away and the spirituality of the landscape embraces you in the most humble of ways.
