Firescape

Some of my fondest memories are of dark nights spent sleeping on a cot in the middle of Sierra National Forest. Of the pine needles silhouetted by nothing more than a star filled sky. I've heard that fire is a natural part of the cycle of the forest but it's still hard to watch the fire consume so much during these past few years of drought. Yet the stunning imagery of natural disaster that is a forest fire cannot be overlooked as the crowds that gather by the road clearly indicates. While driving home my wife looked over her shoulder to see the Willow Fire glowing through the forest. Her gasp got me to look away from the road and pull over. This incredible scene was shining through the pines. The fire appeared as lava pouring down a mountain and I wondered if my camera could capture all that I was seeing.
