Dogwoods at Bass Lake

Waiting for the perfect light and timing is essential for the landscape photographer. It can take all day to waiting for the right light. However, this one took me six years to get. I have checked every year and this was the year that everything was perfect! Bass Lake is full to the brim with cool, clean beautiful blue snow melt. The dogwoods are leafing out in beautiful contrasting bright green. And while Yosemite has a ton of flowers this year, the booms are smaller but this was not the case at Bass Lake. The blossoms were as big as your hand and in surprisingly good shape. Not a single flower needed retouching. The afternoon light filtered through the pine forest and touched the red bark of the cedars providing perfect contrast between the light and shade. It’s great when a plan comes together.
