With just over a minute to go I took one last shot of Bass Lake in 2014. The light from The Pines Resort illuminated the lake as the party was about to begin. 2014 had been a tough year on Bass Lake in a number of ways. The California drought dropped the level of the lake for the entire year. As the forest dried the area experienced a number of fires including the Junction Fire and the Courtney Fire that burned to the edge of the lake. As winter came some relief in the form or rain finally arrived but it has a long way to go before the lake will be restored to its normal level. Then just a few days before the New Year strong winds swept down on the forest toppling a number of trees. All in all 2014 wasn't as bad as it could have been but here is hoping 2015 is kinder to the lake and surrounding areas.
